What is included in the Sam Francis Blue Balls postcard set?
Each order contains a pack of 10 flat postcards featuring the iconic Blue Balls artwork by Sam Francis. These are sized at A6 (10.5 x 14.8 cm) and are ideal for high-end correspondence or curated wall displays.
What makes the printing quality museum-grade?
We use 12-color fine art printing technology. Unlike standard 4-color printing, this method provides a broader color gamut, capturing the specific, vibrant blue tones and subtle transitions characteristic of Sam Francis’s original paintings.
What is the texture and weight of the paper?
These cards are printed on 200 gsm (80 lb) paper with a thickness of 0.26 mm. The paper features a smooth matte finish, providing a sophisticated, glare-free surface that feels substantial in the hand.
Are these postcards environmentally friendly?
Yes. RedKalion utilizes FSC-certified paper, ensuring the materials are sourced from responsibly managed forests. Our print-on-demand model also reduces waste by only producing what is ordered.
How long will these fine art reproductions last?
Our use of archival-grade materials and premium pigments ensures that the prints resist fading over time. When kept out of direct sunlight, these 12-color reproductions maintain their vibrancy for decades.
Why did Sam Francis title this series Blue Balls?
The title refers to Francis's struggle with renal tuberculosis in the early 1960s. The 'blue' represents the pain and the medical symptoms he experienced, which he transformed into these floating, organic, and ultimately life-affirming shapes.
What artistic movement does this work represent?
Sam Francis was a leading figure in Abstract Expressionism and Lyrical Abstraction. His work is celebrated for its use of vibrant color, fluid movement, and the strategic use of white space to create depth.
